Because WarnerMedia, not AT&T, is the unit that operates Warner Bros. If AT&T wanted to emphasize their ownership in the company, they would have renamed the unit formerly known as Time Warner “AT&T Warner,” but it would cause some confusion about where in the hierarchy the Warner units would fit in the large company that also includes the cellular phone company, the cable operator, the long distance company, and the satellite unit.
Instead of saddling it with the AT&T name, they’re honoring the studio’s legacy and keeping the Warner name intact with their media company, WarnerMedia, even merging their entertainment holdings, including Otter Media, AT&T Sports Net, Audience Channel, and their interests in MLB TV and the Game Show Network within that unit as well.
